Boston MA: HazMat response to Park Plaza Hotel building

23 Jan

Boston firefighters and police responded to a hazardous materials incident at the Park Plaza building at 20 Park Plaza early this afternoon. Staff at the Israeli Consulate had identified a suspicious item in the mail, and when they opened it, found an unidentified white powder. The staff had opened the package in a secure, sealed container. Fire Department technicians on scene reported that none of the powder escaped from the container, and that no one had been exposed to the substance. The container and it’s contents will be transferred to a state laboratory for analysis. The tenth floor of the building was evacuated, but a full evacuation was not required.

The incident has been turned over to the FBI for investigation.

UPDATED: Story updated to identify that the incident was at the Israeli Consulate, located at 20 Park Plaza.
